The Musa team consists of the founding members; investment professionals, legal professionals, and an operational support team with experience in back office administration and fund reporting.

William Jimerson
Executive Director

Over 19 years of investment experience with 16 years of transaction know-how in Africa, having closed transactions in East, West and Southern Africa. Among other sectors, transaction expertise in energy, telecoms, financial services and agri-business throughout Southern Africa, East Africa and West Africa, as well as the US – significant experience in structured finance and mergers and acquisitions finance. Previous work experience includes technology investment banking with Merrill Lynch. He holds a S.B. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

 


Antoine Johnson
Executive Director

Over 20 years of work experience in Africa with 16 years of investment practicum, with specific expertise throughout SADC, East and West Africa, having worked on transactions ranging from US$10MM to US$1BN. Among other sectors, transaction expertise across infrastructure (including roads) energy, telecoms, financial services, real property and agri-processing sectors throughout West Africa, Southern Africa and East Africa, as well as Latin America and the U.S., with expertise in corporate, project and real estate financing, as well as in using such financial engineering techniques such as derivatives and securitizations. Previous work experience includes corporate finance and acquisitions at NYNEX (now Verizon). He holds an Executive Management Certification from Babson College and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Boston University.

 

Investment Professionals

Modula Mofolo
Executive Director

Over 12 years combined investment and commercial legal advisory experience in financial services. Modula has facilitated the conclusion of significant Private Public Partnerships between some of the prominent private and public sector players within the SME funding space in South Africa. Previous work experience includes overseeing capital-raising, developing new co-investment partnerships, sourcing new market opportunities; reviewing/monitoring financial performance of equity funds, construction of the investment policy framework; product design and management, pricing, influencing their strategic direction and such other initiatives aimed at enhancing portfolio performance and overall sustainability.

She is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Black Lite Consulting (Pty) Ltd and Merchant West Holdings (Pty) Ltd, where she sits on the Audit Committee, Remuneration Committee and serves as Trustee of the Merchant West Holdings’ Empowerment Trust.

Modula holds a B.A. (Law) and LL.B degrees, attained in 1997 and 1999 respectively. She served Articles at Webber Newdigate Attorneys Inc. Admitted to the bar in 2000. Currently Modula is enrolled at Stellenbosch University Business School for a Masters in Development Finance.

Rebone Mabusela
Vice President

8 years’ experience in corporate finance, advisory, accounting, tax. Audit and investments in South African blue chip companies. Experience includes origination, structuring and execution of capital raisings, listings, restructurings, M&A and privatizations in industries such as consumer-facing businesses, telecoms and financial services. Previous work experience includes investment banking with Standard Bank Corporate and Investment Bank. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) from the University of Cape Town and Chartered Accountant, CA (SA).

Ruveshan Moodliyar
Senior Analyst

5 years’ experience in private equity, M&A, corporate finance, property finance, financial reporting and taxation. Significant exposure to project finance, M&A in the financial services and natural resource sectors, and capital rising in sub-Saharan Africa. 

Work experience includes Training Outside Public Practice with Rand Merchant Bank and First National Bank gaining experience in commercial credit, property finance, risk management, taxation and financial reporting. He holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from the University of the Witwatersrand, Chartered Accountant, CA(SA) and has completed  Level 2 of the CFA programme.

Chief Financial Officer

Over 10 years’ experience in private equity, asset management, finance and taxation. Previous work experience includes asset management with Credit Suisse. Involved in all aspects of financial control, from core responsibilities of Musa Capital to monitoring and advising investee companies. He holds a  Bachelor of Commerce from the University of South Africa and a Chartered Accountant, CA (SA).

Priyal Sewbarun
Financial Officer

7 years’ experience in financial management, audit and asset management, in the aviation, financial services and hospitality industry. Monthly and annual financial reporting for Musa and its entire portfolio companies, as well as attending to daily financial needs of the company. Previous work experience includes management accounting for First National Bank and financial management for Gold Reef City Casino Hotel. Currently studying towards financial information systems, auditing and financial management through UNISA.

Cynthia Parrish
Senior Legal Advisor

Extensive experience as a securities and investment attorney, and legal consultant, with over 20 years of experience in the specialities of investment management, investment advisory and private equity. Musa responsibilities include provision of legal and regulatory advisory services, including general corporate advice, structuring advice, due diligence services, and negotiating and drafting of agreements.

Significant international experience having worked with private equity firms, asset management firms and investment consulting firms in the US, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, the United Kingdom, and South Korea. She holds a LLM (Securities) from Georgetown University, a JD degree (Nova University), and a BBA degree (Temple University), and is admitted as an attorney in the states of Florida and Pennsylvania in the U.S.


Daniel Besong
Legal Advisor

Over 5 years’ experience as a corporate lawyer specializing in both domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, including share and asset sales and acquisitions, joint ventures,  financing and refinancing,  pre- and post-sale company structuring,  legal due diligence, intellectual property, competition law and commercial contracts, including supply, distribution and agency contracts. He has acted for listed and private companies in several civil and common law jurisdictions. Daniel has advised extensively in the emerging markets with a particular focus on Africa spanning across different sectors including in agri business, oil and gas, energy, financial services, telecoms and FMCG sectors in over 15 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

At Musa Daniel provides corporate and commercial transactional legal services and regulatory compliance services for the firm and its wider portfolio.

Daniel holds a Licence en Droit (French - Bachelor of Law degree) from Université de Yaoundé II Soa in Cameroon, an LL.B (Bachelor of Laws degree) and an LL.M (Master of Laws degree) both from Potchefstroom University (NWU) in South Africa and an Int. Adv. Certificate in Compliance and Financial Crime from the ICA in the United Kingdom. He is admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
